Print Felt Flannel
What is appropriate church attire?
I am non-religious but I seem to have lost the ‘I will stay home while you go’ argument. He is Baptist, and since I’m already sure I’ll be damned forever for being the heathen demon child and wife he can’t bring to heaven (Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, et cetera), I’d rather not burst into flames for showing my kneecaps. What’s an example of appropriate church attire (I grew up in a redneck town where Sorel boots and flannel shirts were the height of couture, so that’s all I ever saw on Sundays)? I’ve read a lot about how you should wear white to look pure and whatnot, but to me I feel like a mid-40’s woman wearing a suit to her second wedding. Is black appropriate? I don’t know if black is business professional or screams funeral. What about prints and colors? Ahhhh. Links to appropriate attire would be much appreciated.
Coming from a 52 year old female atheist, I hold respect for others as you are doing in this situation, even with the hint of comical sarcasm! Love it by the way. Common sense dictates this answer. Black would be reserved for a gloom doom statement or funerals. White for the virginal day and also keep it clean for your zip up to heaven. Nothing flashy or loud, too short and no dipping neck line. Unfortunately this means you will have to look like plain good old jane on Sunday. Light colors, floral is OK, bring a sweater it may get cold in there. Smile and be courteous. It will be too easy to be resentful and irritated. This will test the tolerance part of your strength. There are much worse situations in life to encounter.
